The following is an informational SOP for the Sonos Speaker/Musics Technology available though out the Nashville Office.


In an effort to create a more ambiance and noise dampening office environment we need to make some policy changes to the Sonos speaker system on campus. Think of this as ways-of-listening while participating in ways-of-working. While we still work to gradually tweak the sound and content here we wanted to provide some clarity on best practices for this system to maximize effectiveness and enjoyment for all.


All speakers that begin with the name "Office" will begin to play at a set volume each day at 8am automatically and will be set to some form of worship or meditative music. Please help us by not ungrouping the office group of speakers during work hours as well as not modifying the content or volume levels. 


Content will be curated by our illustrious Creative Arts department and we will leave volume control and ability to override music selection in the capable hands of Morgan & Maddie. They aren't professional DJ's though so please consult them only for special events. If something is not working feel free to contact our team in the #get-support channel!


Sonos is designed to work best form the mobile app, so these instructions will assume that use. You can also handle some of these with the Desktop app but features such as adding a speaker are unavailable from desktop. The following is how to set up and troubleshoot these setting in the event this becomes dysfunctional or additions are needed.


Before setting or changing the Alarm to start music please make sure rooms are grouped. At Nashville we have an existing group preset called "Office Ambiance"

If a user ungroups these speakers then currently they will needed to be regrouped for the start to function as desired since Sonos only allows selecting a room (Office Lobby) and any grouped speakers.


To group rooms:

 

From the   System tab, tap Group next to the selected room.

Tap the check mark next to the rooms you want to add to the group, then tap Done. You can also tap Everywhere to group all of your rooms.


To edit a group:


From the  Settings tab, tap System > Groups to manage your saved groups


  1. Tap one of your saved groups.
  2. Tap the rooms under the Include section to remove them from your group.
  3. Tap the rooms under the Available section to add them to your group.
  4. Tap the Group Name to edit your group’s name.
  5. Tap Save when you’re done to save your changes.

Setting the Alarm to Start Music:


  1. From the Rooms tab, tap the Alarm icon.
  2. Tap New Alarm.
  3. Set the Time, Room, Music, Repeat, Volume, and Alarm Duration, and tap Save.
  4. Tap Done.

Alarms can also be accessed from the Settings tab by going to System > Alarms.
